Respect for Law

In July 1965, a discussion between Past Optimist International President Carl Bowen and former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover resulted in the birth of the Respect for Law program.

We have embraced that program and each year, with the cooperation of the Riverside Police Department, recognize officers who exemplify the qualities sought by law enforcement agencies.  The program Inspires respect for the law among our local young people! This motivational program is a community rally against local violence.  In recent years we have expanded the program to include the Fire Department for the same recognition.  These civil servants also ensure the safety of out community and are deserving of our attention.  The officers are honored at a luncheon where their contributions are recognized, they presented with a plaque and their names are forwarded to Pacific Southeast District to compete with others in the District.

We partner with the Riverside Police Department with our Bicycle Safety program and donate bicycles to their Police Rodeo.  We have donated funds to the Fire Department for to secure their ‘Stewie the Duck’ costume for their highly successful program to educate youngsters in swimming safety.  The Law Enforcement and Fire Prevention agencies are integral components of our community and very deserving of our support.
